Slack tide is the turning point when a body of tidal water can seem uncertain as to whether it is coming in or going out. While surface water may be deceptively calm at this time, below the surface huge divergent forces are at work.
In the title of Sarah Day’s ninth collection the erm is an expression of twenty-first century unease. World events and global forces are an oblique presence in much of this collection in whose poems private and public disturb one another’s space and boundaries.
Sarah will be joined in conversation by poet and essayist, Pete Hay.
With participants from more than 100 countries, this biennial prize is one of the world’s most keenly sought after and prestigious. At CA$20,000 it is also the richest for an individual poem.
The first Montreal prize in 2011 was won by Aussie poet Mark Tredinnick. His winning poem ‘Walking Underwater’ is the title poem of a recent PSP collection. You can buy it and recent collections from both John Foulcher and Anthony Lawrence at the PSP on line bookshop.
