Pitt Street Poetry is a specialist publisher of contemporary poetry and selected reprints of modern classics, founded by Linsay and John Knight in Sydney in 2012.
In the past seven years Pitt Street Poetry has published 40 poetry books by 22 poets, mainly from Australia, but also proudly including poets from the UK and the USA. We have published many B format paperbacks, a couple of limited edition signed and numbered hardback editions, some colourful poetry pamphlets and a textbook on how to write poetry. Our books have twice won the Australian Prime Minister’s Literary Award for Poetry (in 2014 and 2017) and have won or been shortlisted for an encouraging variety of other poetry prizes.
The founders
Linsay Knight has spent a lifetime in publishing, first with the Macquarie Dictionary where she edited several dictionaries and the Macquarie series of non-fiction books for children, then at Scholastic. For many years she was Head of Children’s Books at Random House Australia, where she participated in the annual Taronga Poetry Prize and published several anthologies of poetry for and by children. She is currently Head of Australian Publishing at Walker Books.
John Knight studied English literature and medicine and has pursued a career as an academic renal physician and literateur, with particular affection for contemporary poetry and crime fiction. He works as a medical researcher at the George Institute for Global Health.
